For Couples, Engagements, and Weddings
Choosing the right photographer can be frustrating and time consuming. But if you want to capture your most precious memories, especially for engagement and weddings, do some research and follow these basic guidelines so that you are happy with the end product.
Finding a style that fits you
Deciding the style of photography that you like the best, will help you find the perfect photographer for you and your special day! There are many different styles of photography – from traditional posed portraits to photo-journalistic and creative pictures – so if you don’t like the traditional posed pictures, don’t pick a photographer that only has these types of photos in their portfolio.
Look at their portfolio for wedding, engagement, and couples photography and see which ones you like best. If you like their work, contact them for a consultation or see if they have any dates available.
Determine Your Budget
Once you have decided what styles you like, you can start looking for photographers within your budget. If you are just having couples portraits done, and not engagement or wedding pictures, you may not have the same budget as for your wedding! And some wedding photographers can charge a few thousand dollars, so it is important to know your budget before you even have the first consultation with the photographer. If you have to cut cost for the wedding photos don’t get a crummy photographer but instead opt for less time. Many couples are now choosing small & intimate ceremonies in order to save money all the way around. This beach wedding photographer specializes in small weddings and the cost is much less than a formal wedding.
BUT! If you are having engagement and wedding pictures done… remember that the pictures are the only tangible things that you will have after your wedding to remember your special day! It’s an investment and you don’t want to skimp out on the pictures just to save money!
Ask Around & Look At Online Reviews!
Asking for referrals for photographers is a great idea! The professionals that work with weddings all the time typically know which photographers are great to work with and which ones are not! It doesn’t hurt to ask their opinion! You can also ask friends and family members if they have any recommendations for a photographer. Word of mouth recommendations can be very helpful!
Look at online reviews too! If the photographer has consistent bad reviews, even if you like their photos, you should probably think twice before hiring them. BUT if they pretty consistent good reviews, it is a pretty sure sign that they are great to work with, responsive, and deliver a good quality product.
What Do They Offer In Their Packages?
Photographers typically have a variety of photography packages to choose from, so it is important to see which each one can offer you. Some will only sell the prints and not digital copies for use online. If it doesn’t say online what they offer specifically – ask them! Especially if you are looking for digital prints!
Many photographers now also offer engagement and wedding packages, so you can work with the same photographer for both of your special days!
So, look around and do some research! You will be glad you did once you receive photos that you love! Read the next blog What Style Are You
